In Summer 2013, Royal Jelly Jive formed after regularly performing at San Francisco’s iconic Boom Boom Room just steps away from the historic Fillmore Auditorium. Fronted by lead singer Lauren Bjelde and keyboardist/accordionist Jesse Lemme Adams, Royal Jelly Jive takes inspiration from the very San Francisco streets in which they lived and pen dynamic silhouettes of everyday neighbourhood characters, falling in love, and ultimately standing up for who you are and what you believe in. This is where the title of their sophomore full-length studio recording, Stand Up, is born. The album was recorded at Prairie Sun Recording Studios in Sonoma County, CA and produced by GRAMMY Award-nominated Andrew Zweers and Judy Kirschner (Santana, Joe Satriani).
Royal Jelly Jive’s music is the ultimate mashup of 1930s/’40s swing horns, deep rhythm and bass driven hip-hop, and powerhouse female vocals. Stand Up features 11 original compositions and two covers written by lauded Bay Area artists Tom Waits and Primus.
With notable performances with artists including Michael Franti, Rebirth Brass Band and The California Honeydrops, it’s only fitting that the band’s 2016 touring is just as exciting. From a sold-out headlining show at the popular music venue The Independent (San Francisco) celebrating the release of Stand Up to playing some of the most popular summer music festivals such as BottleRock Napa Valley, Joshua Tree Music Festival and Waterfront Blues Festival, Royal Jelly Jive is sure to make every audience they meet.
